What a matrimony scam looks like

Marriage fraud is the most common serious harm on services like this one, and it follows a small number of scripts. Knowing them is most of the defence.

1. Money, in any form

A visa fee, a customs charge, a sick relative, an investment closing today. The amount is small first and larger later. No genuine match asks you for money. Not once, not for anything.

2. Hurry to leave Meherya

Within a few messages they want to move to another app. Off Meherya there is no report button, no block, and no record. Taking your time costs you nothing.

3. A story that cannot be checked

Working abroad, at sea, in the army \u2014 always somewhere a meeting is impossible. On any profile here the workplace and education lines are marked Self-entered: nobody has checked them, and we say so rather than letting a badge imply otherwise.

4. Photographs used against you

A photograph you send can be kept, and no app that claims to stop a screenshot actually can. The photo view here is one look, ten seconds, drawn rather than sent \u2014 and it still cannot stop a camera pointed at a screen. Send nothing you would mind seeing again.

5. Dowry, under another name

Gifts, furnishing the house, helping with a brother's business. Demanding dowry is a criminal offence in Bangladesh under the Dowry Prohibition Act 2018. It is why this app has no income filter and never verifies a salary: a verified salary on a matrimony profile is a dowry figure.

If something has already happened, report the profile and keep the messages. Blocking removes them everywhere on Meherya, and an unmatch cannot be undone by them.

Meeting safely

Planning your first meeting

The first meeting is the moment a matchmaking app stops being software. These are the steps we ask both sides to take.

Choose a public place Somewhere with staff and other people around. Never a home, never a private room, not for the first few meetings.

Tell someone where you are going Share the place and time with a family member or friend. They see only that, nothing else.

Check in when you arrive One tap. If you do not check out within three hours, the person you told is notified automatically.

Check out when you leave Ends the timer. Nobody is alerted.
Be clear about what this is. These are tools that help you meet carefully. They do not make meeting a stranger safe. Trust your own judgement first, and leave whenever you want to.
